In mid-2018, J. Ryan Green and Jason Hamilton began a conversation about the state of the security officer industry in the United States. What started as an interesting discussion on the consolidation of the industry among a handful of very large security companies, a simple idea sprouted: What if Ryan and Jason used their respective experience in the security services industry and in business operations together, and did it better… again? From the simple goal of hiring the best officers available in order to provide excellent security officer services and solutions, Horizon Security was born.
To that end, we provide a brief biographical history of key Horizon ownership and management personnel.
President & Managing Owner
Mr. Green is a native Floridian who returned to Texas in 2018, where he had first attended college earlier in his career. Ryan is Horizon’s President and Managing Owner, handling the day to day operations of the company along with its growth plan. Upon teaming with Jason Hamilton, former President of ALERT Protective Services, Horizon Security’s start in Dallas gained traction with clear ideas on how the company would grow and the quality service it would offer.
Lubbock Christian University, was where Ryan got his first taste of Texas life. After returning to Florida several years later, Mr. Green transferred to State College of Florida while also attending the Law Enforcement Academy in the mid 1990’s. He received Dean’s list honors at SCF, and graduated in the top 5% of his class at the Law Enforcement Academy. Ryan was hired by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 and served as a Patrol Deputy and a Property Crimes Detective until 2001, when he made the decision to enter the security services industry because of its potential for growth.
After leaving the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan became the Branch Manager for Allied Protection Services in Orlando, Florida. Based in Fort Myers, Florida, Mr. Green grew the Orlando Branch from virtually no revenue as an upstart branch, to a multimillion-dollar branch in under 12 months. Upon relocating to the Sarasota area in 2007 to be closer to his family, Ryan was hired as Branch Manager for the relatively young ALERT Protective Services, also based in Sarasota.
Upon joining ALERT, Mr. Green and Mr. Hamilton worked together for the first time and developed a mutual respective for each other’s specific talents. While at ALERT, Ryan managed contract security guard services for upscale homeowners’ associations, high rise condominiums, office building complexes and distribution centers. It was during this ALERT tenure that Mr. Green learned how to manage quality accounts and provide the best customer service available in the security industry. ALERT’s focus was to hire the best people and match them with the positions where they will excel, with the ultimate goal of winning its customer’s loyalty “for life”. Ryan honed his customer service and sales skills and later became the Area Manager for a national security company, Allegiance Security Group. Ryan grew the Allegiance operation in Sarasota for several years prior to leaving to start his own company in 2010.
In the eight years, prior to his relocation to Dallas, Ryan started and operated his own Private Investigation Agency in the Sarasota – Bradenton Area, J Ryan Investigations. Mr. Green successfully managed other private detectives and field personnel while also working several high-profile cases himself, including the Katelyn Markham murder case out of Ohio, partnering successfully with Ms. Markham’s family and law enforcement to move the investigation forward.
Mr. Green has 20 plus years of security, investigations, law enforcement and management experience that he brings to the Horizon team for the benefit of its clients and personnel. Ryan is a Licensed Security Firm Owner and Licensed Manager with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Since starting its operation in Dallas, Mr. Green, Mr. Hamilton and Horizon are active members Sponsors of Community Associations Institute, Dallas – Fort Worth Chapter.
Jason Hamilton, MBA
Vice President & Owner
Mr. Hamilton started Horizon Security along with J. Ryan Green in August 2018. Using his experience in the industry and partnering it with Ryan’s, the company was born with a simple concept in mind: hire the best possible security officers with the goal of providing consistent and excellent security service.
As the previous President and Chief Operating Officer of Florida based ALERT Protective Services, Mr. Hamilton worked with his three partners to grow ALERT from 30 employees to over 450, with four branch offices during its 13 year operation. In 2017, ALERT sold to a large national firm because of the retirement of its CEO.
Knowing he wanted to remain a small business owner and having an extensive background serving homeowner and condominium associations in Florida, Jason founded Pinnacle Community Association Management in 2017, with two other partners. His idea with Pinnacle is the same as it with Horizon: hire the best people, in order to raise the level of professionalism, experience and service excellence in the industry.
Mr. Hamilton is Horizon’s Vice President and is an owner of the firm. His role includes sales support and marketing, operational process development, technology integration and business operations.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin and has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Florida. He has over 25 years of experience in business management, Security Services, Loss Prevention and Risk Management. This expertise includes financial and business management, safety and security operations, employee training, asset protection, risk management security consulting.
His experience has come from a variety ownership and management roles with small and large corporations alike, that included: ALERT Protective Services, Harley-Davidson, Briggs & Stratton, Target Corporation, JCP Company Inc., Securitas and Allied Universal Security Services, working both directly for and servicing them as clients. Mr. Hamilton has experience in company acquisitions as well, having conducted due diligence and negotiated as both a buyer and seller, multiple times.
Mr. Hamilton is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP™), as awarded by ASIS International, the world’s largest 0rganization with over 35,000 members worldwide. As such, he is Board Certified in Security Management. This certification is awarded to individuals that have the necessary experience & education and who have demonstrated advanced knowledge in eight separate disciplines that comprise the CPP.
To ensure this knowledge is relevant to an ever-changing security landscape, all CPP™’s must be re certified every three years by exhibiting a combination of community activities, industry participation and continuing education.
Jason is a Licensed Security Firm Owner with the Texas Department of Public Safety. In addition, he is also a Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM) as provided by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in Florida. Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Green and Horizon are active members Sponsors of Community Associations Institute. In addition, he has been an active member of ASIS International since 1997, obtaining his (CPP™) certification in 2007. Jason has served the community as a past member and board member of the Stoneybrook At Venice Community Development District and an instructor at the Longboat Key Education Center.
